Soul Creatures are a 6 piece funk band from Houston, Tx with influences ranging from Kool and the Gang to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their debut release, “Soul Creatures EP” is a strong representation of their live shows; which never cease to disappoint.
These fresh new faces are excited to splash on the local Houston scene and this energy radiates on their EP, which was produced and mixed by Jonathan Lee Chan at legendary SugarHill Recording Studios.
Singer Russell Martinez’s vocals are reminiscent of James Brown and carry the electricity of the group throughout. Capped by the super funky and sometimes super raucous guitar solos of Michael Dean, the band’s first track “Red Vanilla” is a fitting introduction into the personality of the band.
“Groove on You” follows, featuring bassist Sergio Vazquez holdin’ down the bottom end. Trumpeters John Guel and Rochelle Sloan stab throughout, evoking elements reminiscent of Tower of Power. Next up, “Donnie G” follows, locking in the band with the drum pocket laid down by drummer Drew Wolod.
The final track “Hey” is a favorite at their shows, complete with crowd participation and group vocals. All in all, the band is super proud of this release and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we did making it!
